Rookie lifeguard is our junior life saving scheme which delivers water safety, first aid and lifesaving skills. The courses are delivered by our RLSS qualified trainer-assessors and children are able to work towards a series of awards, the Rookie lifeguard bronze, silver and gold. Topics covered include survival skills, reach, throw and wading rescues, rescuing an unconscious casualty and basic life support (CPR). These classes offer a fun and exciting way to develop water skills as an alternative to competitive swimming. They are a great way to meet new friends, develop teamwork and communication skills and ensure children can keep themselves and their friends safe around water. Children must be aged over 8, able to swim 2 lengths and tread water for 2 minutes. Classes take place every Monday, 5.30-6.30.
We also run the Survive and Save program which is an extension to Rookie Lifeguard for children aged over 12. They work towards the RLSS Bronze Medallion which is a higher level lifesaving and water safety qualification. These classes contain both theory and practical elements and are a great stepping stone to higher level lifesaving activities such as becoming a pool helper or even a lifeguard. Please contact the pool to find out the dates for these courses.
